Towerside was a modern building constructed in 1983, in yellow stock bricks with blue engineering bricks for the parapets and copings. The design was by PRP, architects. They were originally commissioned by Hammerson to construct a building on the site of some old demolished wharfs between Wapping high Street and the River Thames, including the conversion of one remaining warehouse block (Prusom's Island) and the provision of townhouses on the other side of Wapping High Street. After planning permission was obtained, the estate was sold to Wates Built Homes, who continued to employ PRP for the construction.
